Day 2 — Adventure By Day, Mountain Magic By Night

Morning: Trails, River Dips & Exceptional Coffee

Start your day the Buena Vista way with a walk along the Midland Trail System, located just a short stroll from Shore House. With sweeping mountain views and easy access from town, it's the perfect way to wake up and settle into the slower rhythm of the weekend.

If the weather is warm, reward yourself afterward with a refreshing dip in the Arkansas River. Few things feel more Colorado than cold mountain water, sunshine, and the Collegiate Peaks rising in the distance.

For breakfast, head into town and follow your mood.

Grab a handcrafted coffee from Veya and pair it with pastries or breakfast from Bird & Mouse Bakery (Situated in the alley between Chestnut St and Main 323) or The Eldest Daughter, two local favorites known for their creative baked goods and welcoming atmosphere.

If Blackburn Oven happens to be operating during your visit, it's another excellent option for a leisurely morning meal on the Terrace on Main.

Afternoon: Picnic, Paddleboards & High Mountain Lakes

Because we’re in the mountains, it's time to get outside again.

Stop by Spark Provisions or Cool River Cafe to build the perfect mountain picnic, then head to CKS to rent your gear for the afternoon. Whether you're an experienced paddler or trying something new, there are plenty of ways to enjoy the water.

Rent all your gear at CKS!

For those looking for a little more adventure, take a paddleboard onto the Arkansas River and experience Buena Vista from an entirely different perspective. If a slower pace sounds more appealing, load up your SUP and head toward one of the area's beautiful alpine destinations, such as Cottonwood Lake or Clear Creek Reservoir, where calm water and mountain scenery create the perfect setting for a relaxing afternoon.

Find a quiet shoreline, enjoy your picnic, and soak in the kind of Colorado experience that feels increasingly difficult to find in the state's more crowded destinations.

Evening: Good Food, Great Company & A Colorado Classic

After a day outdoors, freshen up and head out for dinner.

For something casual and close to Shore House, The Buena Viking offers a relaxed local atmosphere and satisfying comfort food. Looking for a more romantic evening? Amalie is one of Buena Vista's favorite spots for wine, conversation, and a slower-paced dinner. If pizza and mountain-town ambiance sound like the perfect end to the day, Crave is always a solid choice.

As the sun begins to set, make your way to one of Buena Vista's most beloved traditions: the Comanche Drive-In. Arrive early enough to catch the colors changing over the mountains before the movie begins. There are few better ways to end a Colorado summer evening than watching a film under the stars with the windows down and the mountains silhouetted against the night sky.
